01 Local market

Heavy industry in a river valley

Gadsden's electrical market is built around steel and tire manufacturing, with a supporting layer of fabrication, machining and maintenance shops. The work is heavy, the cable is heavy, and much of it sits in stockrooms that have been accumulating since the last major expansion.

Expect welding cable in large sizes, control cable from drive and panel replacements, tray cable, SOOW and feeder stock. Grounding conductor and bare copper appear in quantity because plant grounding systems are maintained and extended rather than replaced.

Contractor surplus exists too — Gadsden and nearby Rainbow City, Attalla and Glencoe have active commercial work — but the industrial lots are the distinctive ones here.

02 Wire types

Gadsden's industrial stock

  • Welding cable in #2 through 4/0, often on partial spools.
  • Control cable in 16 and 18 AWG multiconductor constructions.
  • Tray cable in 3/C and 4/C, copper and aluminum.
  • SOOW and Type W portable power cable.
  • Feeder and grounding conductor from plant expansions.

Steel-mill stock is often dusty and stored in unheated buildings. That is expected; the photos should show whether the jacket is intact rather than whether it is clean.

03 Access

Ramps, dock plates and old buildings

Older plants in the Gadsden area were not designed for modern trucks. Loading may involve a ramp, a dock plate or a forklift with limited reach. Tell us what exists on site and whether the material can be moved to a better door.

If the reel is in a basement or on a mezzanine, say so early — it changes the equipment needed.

Details and photos

Include anything that affects removal: dock height, forklift capacity, appointment rules.

Photos help most when they show the reel flange tag, the print on the jacket, the conductor end and a wide shot of the lot. JPG, PNG, HEIC or PDF; keep the four uploads under 10 MB in total. Larger sets can be emailed to saleselectricalbuyers@gmail.com.

Submitting this form does not commit you to anything. We reply with an offer or a question — never a mailing list.

05 / Questions

Gadsden questions

Do you buy used welding cable?

Yes, if the jacket is sound and the conductor is not corroded. Heavy spatter is assessed from photos.

Can you collect from an older plant without a dock?

Often, with the right equipment. Tell us about ramps, mezzanines and forklift capacity.

Do you buy plant grounding conductor?

Yes — bare copper, stranded grounding cable and grounding grid conductor from expansions.

Stockroom older than the equipment?

Send photos of the tags. Age matters less than identification and condition.
