Region 03 · Montgomery
Surplus wire buying in the Capital Region
State buildings, military installations, automotive suppliers and river industry — steady construction, steady leftovers.
Public work, private suppliers
Montgomery's electrical market is shaped by public construction: state office buildings, courthouses, schools, correctional facilities and the installations at Maxwell-Gunter. Public projects tend to specify conservative, well-documented material, and the surplus that comes out of them is usually still identified by tag and part number.
Around that core, the region's industrial base is automotive and tier-one suppliers, food processing, paper and building products. Prattville's paper mill and the suppliers along the I-65 corridor buy feeder cable, tray cable and control cable in industrial quantities.
Elmore and Autauga counties add suburban commercial work and warehouse construction, where MC, SER and THHN partials are the everyday surplus.
Public projects and plant spares
- State and county projects: feeder and branch circuit leftovers, often with documented footage.
- School and hospital work: fire alarm cable, plenum cable and control wiring.
- Automotive suppliers: VFD cable, tray cable and control cable from line changes.
- Paper and building products: medium-voltage feeder, welding lead and grounding conductor.
- Contractors: MC and SER partials from residential and commercial service work.
Public-sector sellers sometimes need a disposition process, a bill of sale or a form signed by a procurement officer. Tell us at the start; it is easier to prepare than to retrofit.
I-65 and I-85 put the region on one route
Montgomery sits at the junction of I-65 and I-85, which makes the region unusually easy to serve: Prattville is fifteen minutes northwest, Wetumpka and Millbrook are east, and Tallassee and Tuskegee are within an hour. Removal can usually be combined across two or three sellers in a day if the schedules line up.
The practical exception is weight. A full reel of 500 MCM copper is heavy enough that a standard pickup will not do, and a mill in Prattville may require a forklift that the seller does not own. Those details belong in the first message.
