Buying scope
Surplus wire and cable we buy
Ten wire families, one rule: if it carries current, we will look at it. Scroll the list, open the page that matches your reel, and send the details with photos.
Every family we quote
Each page explains what qualifies, which sizes and constructions show up most often in Alabama, and what to photograph before you send an inquiry.

Wire inside a bigger package
We are wire buyers. That focus is what lets us price a reel accurately instead of guessing at a mixed lot of electrical equipment.
Surplus rarely arrives as a single clean category. A plant cleanout might include reels of tray cable, a pallet of THHN boxes and a shelf of welding lead alongside other electrical equipment. The quickest way to a number is to separate the description: list each cable type, size and footage, and note what is on each reel.
You do not need an inventory system to do it. A photo of the rack, a photo of each tag and a sentence about the total reel count is usually enough to start. If some reels are unidentified, say so and include a photo of the jacket print.
The same applies to mixed metal: list copper and aluminum separately, because they are priced on different fundamentals.
Reels, spools, coils and boxes
Wire arrives in more shapes than people expect, and the packaging tells you something about how it was bought.
Full reels and lifts
Manufacturer reels with original wrap and an intact tag are the easiest inventory to quote. The tag gives type, size, voltage rating and footage in a single photograph.
Partial reels
Reels that came back from a job often have the remaining footage marked on the flange in marker. If it is not marked, give us the reel diameter and the number of wraps and we will estimate with you.
Coils and cut lengths
Bare copper, grounding conductors and THHN cut lengths are frequently coiled and tied in the back of a truck or on a shelf. Coils are quotable as long as the conductor size and approximate length are clear.
Boxed stock
500-foot and 1,000-foot boxes of THHN, thermostat wire, fire alarm cable and Cat 5e/6 are common distributor overstock. Unopened boxes are ideal; opened boxes with most of the length remaining are still considered.
Not sure which page fits your reel?
Send a photo of the tag. We will identify the family and quote it from there.
