Surplus wire buying in North Alabama

Aerospace, defense, appliances, steel and TVA hydropower — a region that buys instrumentation cable by the mile and leaves the balance on the shelf.

01 The market

Research parks and river industry

North Alabama is the most technical wire market in the state. Huntsville's aerospace, defense and research employers support a dense supplier network — machine shops, test facilities, integrators and cleanroom contractors — and those suppliers buy control cable, instrumentation cable, shielded pairs and VFD cable in quantities sized to a program rather than a building.

Along the Tennessee River, Decatur and Florence add heavy industry: steel, appliances, chemicals and TVA hydropower. Those sites hold medium-voltage cable, tray cable and large feeder stock, plus the grounding conductor that goes with a substation or a mill expansion.

Further east, Marshall and DeKalb counties add poultry processing, automotive suppliers and the data-centre construction that has grown along the TVA transmission corridor in Jackson County.

02 Where wire sits

Program leftovers and plant spares

  • Defense and aerospace suppliers: shielded instrument cable, control cable and VFD cable from test stands and program builds.
  • Data-centre construction: tray cable, feeders, grounding and fire alarm cable from large electrical packages.
  • River industries: medium-voltage feeder, tray cable and welding lead from mill maintenance.
  • Contractors: new commercial and multifamily work leaves MC, SER and THHN partials.
  • Municipal and utility yards: URD, USE-2 and primary cable from distribution upgrades.

Technical sellers often have the best documentation: part numbers on spools, factory tags on reels and test reports for medium-voltage cable. Send those — they shorten the quote process considerably.

03 Freight notes

Longer distances, tighter schedules

From Huntsville to Florence is roughly two hours west; from Huntsville to Fort Payne is closer to an hour and a half east. Freight in this region is planned around a day rather than an afternoon, so appointment windows and gate hours matter more than they do in Birmingham.

Tell us whether the site requires a delivery appointment, a safety orientation or a background check for drivers. Federal facilities and some industrial plants do; knowing early avoids a wasted trip.

For multi-site sellers — a supplier with stock in Huntsville and Decatur, for example — list each location separately so the route can be built properly.

Details and photos

Include anything that affects removal: dock height, forklift capacity, appointment rules.

Photos help most when they show the reel flange tag, the print on the jacket, the conductor end and a wide shot of the lot. JPG, PNG, HEIC or PDF; keep the four uploads under 10 MB in total. Larger sets can be emailed to saleselectricalbuyers@gmail.com.

Submitting this form does not commit you to anything. We reply with an offer or a question — never a mailing list.
