We buy copper and aluminum building wire
Branch circuits, feeders and service entrance conductors — solid or stranded, copper or aluminum, in boxes, coils and reels.
What counts as building wire
Building wire is the conductor that carries power inside a structure: branch circuits to receptacles and lights, feeders from a panel to a subpanel, and service entrance conductors from the meter to the main disconnect. It is the largest category of surplus wire in Alabama because every commercial job orders more than it installs.
We buy it in copper and aluminum, solid and stranded, in original boxes, full reels, partial reels and coiled cut lengths. Typical constructions include THHN, THWN, THWN-2, XHHW, XHHW-2, RHW-2, RHH, USE-2, SER and SEU, plus the bare and green grounding conductors that travel with them.
What we need is identity: the wire type, the conductor material, the gauge or MCM, and the approximate length. Without a tag, the print on the jacket usually provides all of it.
From fixture wire to 1000 MCM feeders
Small sizes move in boxes and coils: #14 and #12 for 15 A and 20 A circuits, #10 for 30 A equipment, #8 and #6 for larger single loads. From #4 upward the wire usually arrives on a reel, and from 1/0 to 1000 MCM it is feeder and service stock.
- #14 – #10: THHN/THWN-2 and XHHW-2 in 500 ft and 1,000 ft boxes, plus MC and fixture whips.
- #8 – #2: feeder and subpanel sizes, often in partial reels after a service change.
- #1 – 4/0: service entrance and larger feeders, copper or aluminum.
- 250 – 1000 MCM: industrial distribution, switchgear ties, parallel runs and tray cable.
Aluminum compact stranded conductor is common in the larger sizes and is priced as its own lot. If a pallet mixes copper and aluminum, separate the counts in your inquiry.
New surplus, opened boxes and site leftovers
Most building wire we see is unused. It was ordered for a job, partly installed, and the balance went back into the connex or onto a shelf. Original-wrap reels with tags are the simplest to quote.
Opened boxes are fine too. A 1,000-foot box with 600 feet left is still worth buying; we just need the remaining length, which is often written on the box flap. Coiled cut lengths need the conductor size and an approximate measurement — a tape measure against the coil diameter helps.
Wire that was installed and removed is considered case by case. Photograph the jacket and the ends so the insulation condition is visible; brittle or deeply gouged insulation changes what the lot is worth.

Building wire questions
Do you buy wire in 500-foot boxes?
Yes. Unopened boxes are straightforward; opened boxes are quoted on the remaining length, which is usually marked on the flap or can be estimated from the weight.
Is aluminum building wire worth buying?
Yes, particularly in service entrance and feeder sizes from #2 through 4/0 and above. Aluminum is priced separately from copper because the conductor value is different.
Can you quote from a photograph of the box label alone?
Often, yes. The label carries the type, size and length. If the label is torn, photograph the jacket print where it enters the box.
Do you buy mixed pallets of several sizes?
Yes, but list the sizes and approximate footages separately. A mixed pallet quoted as one lump usually produces a conservative number.
Clearing a connex or stockroom?
Send one list of every size and footage. We would rather quote the whole lot than a single reel.
