Who we buy surplus wire from

Every seller holds wire for a different reason. This page explains how the conversation works for contractors, distributors, plants, mills, institutions and demolition crews across Alabama.

01 Contractors

Electrical contractors and subcontractors

Contractor wire accumulates in three places: the connex, the truck and the back of the shop. Leftover feeder reels from a completed building, cut lengths from a service change, and boxes of THHN that were opened for one circuit are the usual inventory.

You do not need a formal list. Photograph the flange tags, note the approximate footage on partials, and tell us where the material is sitting — a jobsite in Huntsville and a shop in Mobile are both workable. If the wire is still on a project that is closing out, say so and we can sequence removal around your schedule.

For contractors, the value is usually in clearing space and recovering cost on material that will otherwise sit through three more jobs and never get used.

02 Distributors

Electrical distributors and wholesalers

Distributors hold the largest and cleanest surplus: full reels that went slow, special-order cable that was never picked up, discontinued constructions and overstock in sizes the local market no longer calls for.

Send an inventory export or a spreadsheet with type, size, voltage, footage and quantity per reel. Add photos of representative tags. We will work through the list and come back with pricing on the items we can move, rather than a single blended number for the whole rack.

Partial reels from cut-to-order sales are fine too. Those usually need footage verification, so tell us whether your system tracks remaining length or whether the flange is marked by hand.

03 Industry

Manufacturers, industrial plants and mills

Plant stockrooms accumulate wire through maintenance, capital projects and turnarounds: instrumentation cable, tray cable, VFD cable, control cable, grounding conductors and medium-voltage feeder spools. When a plant changes a line or replaces a motor control centre, the wire that was staged for the old configuration often stays on the shelf.

We buy that stock as wire, and quote it on conductor, insulation, voltage class and footage. Paper mills, steel and metal facilities, chemical and pharmaceutical plants, automotive and aerospace suppliers, food processing plants and data centers all carry the same categories in different proportions.

If your site requires vendor onboarding, a bill of sale, or a scrap/recycling manifest, tell us at the start and we will confirm what we can provide before you spend time on paperwork.

04 Utilities & institutions

Utilities, power plants, hospitals and campuses

Utilities and power generators hold medium-voltage cable, concentric-neutral primary, EPR and XLPE insulated cable, tree wire and substation conductor. Those lots are quoted on conductor content, insulation condition, voltage class and test documentation where it exists.

Hospitals, universities and research facilities tend to hold low-voltage, fire alarm, plenum and communication cable, often in smaller quantities spread across several buildings. A consolidated list with building locations is more useful than individual emails.

Institutional sellers usually need a purchase order, an approved buyer form or a surplus-property disposition process. Send the requirement with the inventory and we will tell you early whether we can work within it.

05 Demolition

Construction, demolition and warehouse cleanouts

Demolition and cleanout work runs on a schedule. If a building is coming down in three weeks, the wire has to move before the walls do, and the value depends on whether it can be pulled intact rather than cut into short pieces.

Tell us the building type, the expected wire categories, whether the cable is accessible, and what loading equipment will be on site. Photographs of switch rooms, risers and stockrooms help more than a description.

Warehouse and distribution cleanouts are usually simpler: unopened boxes, palletized reels and returned stock. Those lots can often be quoted from photos alone.

06 / Quote

Submit inventory for review

Send what you have. If some details are unknown, mark them unknown rather than guessing — we would rather ask one question than quote the wrong reel.

Print from the jacket or the reel tag.

Details and photos

Include anything that affects removal: dock height, forklift capacity, appointment rules.

Photos help most when they show the reel flange tag, the print on the jacket, the conductor end and a wide shot of the lot. JPG, PNG, HEIC or PDF; keep the four uploads under 10 MB in total. Larger sets can be emailed to saleselectricalbuyers@gmail.com.

Submitting this form does not commit you to anything. We reply with an offer or a question — never a mailing list.

Need a bill of sale or vendor packet?

Tell us before the quote. Paperwork requirements are easier to handle up front than after an offer is accepted.
